Human Events Online New Website Puts Social Media to Work for Conservativesby Jordan Vivian 09/17/2009 Print This Forward Feedback Facebook LinkedIn Digg This! Subscribe Sponsored By: -->Young conservatives now have their own little corner of cyberspace to exchange ideas on activism, rate teachers by liberal bias, and even obtain legal support “when subjected to abusive indoctrination or bias on campus.”Campusreform.org wasn't designed as a “conservative Facebook,” according to New Media Director Adrienne Royer, but instead as a tool to integrate what's already out there in social media and put it to use for conservatives.“We want to combine all those resources, and give students the ability to fight back on their campuses,” said Royer. The goal is to help them “take their campuses back from, you know, leftist professors and administrators who really run over them a lot.”Behind the effort is The Leadership Institute (LI), a non-profit, non-partisan think-tank located in Arlington, Virginia. Founded in 1979 by Morton Blackwell, LI has trained more than 74,000 people with the goal of “increasing the number and effectiveness of conservative activists and leaders in the public policy process.”Some have accused conservatives of being too slow on the draw when it comes to activating youth via the internet and social media. This was most clearly demonstrated in the 2008 presidential election, when then-candidate Barack Obama created a broad grassroots movement of young activists with the help of the internet.“Campus Reform definitely came as a result of seeing how effective the Obama campaign was with organizing college students and young people through the web,” said Royer. “I think 2008 was definitely a wakeup call… It was a wakeup call for the Leadership Institute to say, no, we really need to engage students on social media and on the social networks.”Some of the most anticipated aspects of the site include a tool to rate professors and textbooks based on perceived levels of liberal bias. Designed to combat any alleged usage of “the bully pulpit” by professors, this section of the site will be monitored to prevent misuse.“They can rate a professor on a scale with lecture bias, discussion bias, and reading bias on a scale of 1 to 5, from liberal to fair, and then that gives them an overall bias scale,” Royer said. “You can also vote comments up and down, so the community members can refine it. ‘Oh I have a professor, he is a liberal, but he is grades very fairly.' You know, so if someone says they're not fair, I can vote that down.”The website has been online since September 1 undergoing successful beta testing, and Royer is confident that as the site continues to evolve they will reach their goal of 10,000 members by the end of the year. “This site will be constantly evolving just like other social networks, you know, this is not a final product, we're going to be adding in new features.”One particular feature that Royer is looking to expand is a “friending” component, which would allow users to connect with each other similar to Facebook.Ultimately, said Royer, this is exactly the right time to launch a website for young conservatives. “We're seeing a resurgence in conservative activists, so we're hoping this gets down to the conservative college student level and that they can mobilize on their campuses,” she said. “It's kind of fitting in perfectly with everything that's going on in the country.”Jordan Vivian is a HUMAN EVENTS intern and recent graduate of Principia College. He is the former editor in chief of the Principia Pilot student newspaper and host of The Cheat Sheet, a weekly news radio program on Principia Internet Radio. Leftists Give CampusReform.org Great Press
Leftists Give CampusReform.org Great PressBy adrienne, on September 18, 2009An old expression states that "there's no such thing as bad publicity." Often on the right, our liberal colleagues can provide the best publicity for us by complaining. It was particularly true at Slippery Rock University yesterday when Lisbeth Wells-Pratt, a liberal student, reviewed CampusReform.org:The reason the Leadership Institute exists is to cultivate the conservative propaganda-mongers of tomorrow. They're training the best of the best, the most talented and most intelligent of the conservative base, grooming them to incite political mudslinging on university campuses.Do you want to be a part of the best and brightest "conservative propaganda-mongers?" Share CampusReform.org with your friends through Facebook and other social networks. Also take advantage of Leadership Institute training and learn how to be an effective conservative activist. After all, as Ms. Wells-Pratt opines:The conservatives will win, though, like they usually do. They're better organized than liberals, they're more militant than liberals and they're cleverer than liberals.>

This past Friday, September 11, 2009, the Leadership Institute trained over 400 students in conjunction with the 9/12 Project March on Washington. Tea Partiers from around the country came to the JW Marriott, across from Washington, DC's Freedom Plaza, and learned grassroots techniques that will make them more effective “online, on the ground, and on the Hill.” This training was heavily promoted by FreedomWorks, the grassroots organization that launched the efforts that brought hundreds of thousands of activists to DC on September 12th to protest against the wasteful spending in Congress. >
CampusReform.org to Challenge Dominance of College Leftists

CampusReform.org to Challenge Dominance of College Leftists
CampusReform.org to Challenge Dominance of College Leftists ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Leadership Institute today launched CampusReform.org, a new social networking website for conservative student activists. Designed to help student groups promote conservative principles and fight liberal abuses at colleges and universities across the country, CampusReform.org offers its users advanced networking capabilities, training, and a variety of continually updated activism resources. The website includes a unique subsite for each of the 2,376 four-year colleges and universities in the country and offers customizable pages for both student groups and individual users. "CampusReform.org will dramatically increase the number of battles fought against leftist abuses on college campuses this year," said Morton Blackwell, Leadership Institute founder and president. "And based on long experience, conservative students will win most of those new battles as they identify, expose, and combat leftist abuses and bias." Blackwell started CampusReform.org to provide an online organizing platform for conservative activists who want to stand up for their principles on campus and reclaim American higher education from the left. He organized the 1980 Youth for Reagan effort and was on the Steering Committee of National Youth for Goldwater in 1964. "CampusReform.org will help students break the left's stranglehold on the ivory tower. Enough is enough, and it's time for conservatives to stand up against liberal indoctrination on college campuses," said Tyler Millage, a junior political science major at UNC-Wilmington who works with the Leadership Institute. Established in 1979, the Leadership Institute increases the number and effectiveness of conservative activists across the country. To do that, the Institute identifies, recruits, trains, and places conservatives in government, politics, and the media, enrolling more than 74,000 students in its unique programs since its inception. LI's Campus Leadership Program, which encompasses CampusReform.org, has already organized over 1,100 currently active independent student groups and publications at colleges across the country and maintains a correspondent relationship with these campus activists. The Laws of Public Policy

The Laws of Public Policy
1. Never give a bureaucrat a chance to say no. 2. Don't fire all your ammunition at once. 3. Don't get mad except on purpose. 4. Effort is admirable. Achievement is valuable. 5. Make the seal more expensive than it's worth. 6. Give ‘em a title and get ‘em involved. 7. Expand the leadership. 8. You can't beat a plan with no plan. 9. Political technology determines political success. 10. Sound doctrine is sound politics. 11. In politics, you have your word and your friends; go back on either and you're dead. 12. Keep your eyes on the main chance and don't stop to kick every barking dog. 13. Don't make the perfect the enemy of the good. 14. Remember the other side has troubles too. 15. Don't treat good guys like you treat bad guys. 16. A well-run movement takes care of its own. 17. Hire at least as many to the right of you as to the left of you. 18. You can't save the world if you can't pay the rent. 19. All gains are incremental; some increments aren't gains. 20. A stable movement requires a healthy, reciprocal I.O.U. flow among its participants. Don't keep a careful tally. 21. An ounce of loyalty is worth a pound of cleverness. 22. Never miss a political meeting if you think there's the slightest chance you'll wish you'd been there. 23. In volunteer politics, a builder can build faster than a destroyer can destroy. 24. Actions have consequences. 25. The mind can absorb no more than the seat can endure. 26. Personnel is policy. 27. Remember it's a long ball game. 28. The test of moral ideas is moral results. 29. You can't beat somebody with nobody. 30. Better a snake in the grass than a viper in your bosom. 31. Don't fully trust anyone until he has stuck with a good cause which he saw was losing. 32. A prompt, generous letter of thanks can seal a commitment which otherwise might disappear when the going gets rough. 33. Governing is campaigning by different means. 34. You cannot make friends of your enemies by making enemies of your friends. 35. Choose your enemies as carefully as you choose your friends. 36. Keep a secure home base. 37. Don't rely on being given anything you don't ask for. 38. In politics, nothing moves unless it's pushed. 39. Winners aren't perfect. They made fewer mistakes than their rivals. 40. One big reason is better than many little reasons. 41. In moments of crisis, the initiative passes to those who are best prepared. 42. Politics is of the heart as well as of the mind. Many people don't care how much you now until they know how much you care. 43. Promptly report your action to the one who requested it. 44. Moral outrage is the most powerful motivating force in politics. 45. Pray as if it all depended on God; work as if it all depended on you. Morton Blackwell President, The Leadership Institute
